Baby Steps

So I know I just did a post a few days ago, but I am posting again today in hopes of starting a routine of doing a post each Monday or Tues after I weigh myself.  :)

Also, I am going to take a "before" picture so that I can post pictures to track my weight loss progress.  (I just need to figure out how to post pictures...ugg)

I have decided that losing weight is a LOT harder when you have kids.  When I was single I could focus all my attention on losing weight.  I would do my grocery shopping and didn't have anyone else to please.  (like a picky husband...he,he)  I would go to the gym anytime of day that worked for me.  Now, it is a totally different story, as I am sure many of you mother's out there know.  :)

So right now I am just focusing on baby steps.  I am trying to keep Quinn and I busy so that I don't have time to snack on food and overeat.  I am trying to be diligent about having healthy dinners ready so we aren't tempted to eat out.  My husband and I made a eating out budget for the month limiting ourselves and I am trying to be active every day.  Some days I am able to run, other days like today when Quinn is ornery and crying all day, I am doing some jumping jacks, sit ups and push ups at home.  Baby steps, that is what I have to remind myself.  I typically get really frustrated at myself when I don't accomplished everything that I want too, but this time around I am giving myself a break and just doing my best.

I am curious about how other moms find time to exercise with kids.  What they do and how much time it takes?  Please share if you have tips, advice, etc.

  1. Yay Kailee! This weight loss stuff is hard- especially with kids.
What I did was find a gym with daycare. Or I put him the stroller and walk as fast as I can while pushing. I have also swapped sitting with friends every once in a while so that I can go out for an hour or two and then the next day she does while I watch her kids.... Keep it up! I know I've been bad at posting but Im going to be back at it soon!!!

  2. Go Kailee!! Loosing weight is hard to do but it is a lifestyle change that has to occur so that it will work for you everyday. I just lost 21 pounds 133-112(Jan-march)over the past few months by doing a few things. Aaron has also lost 42 pounds. I figured my goal was to loose 20 pounds in eight weeks 2 pounds a week. One pound is 3500 calories right so everyday to loose weight I needed to be negative 1000 calories...How the heck, I thought, I have to eat!! But I did some more math and found I loose 1300 calories a day just by doing nothing (Your weight plus a 0) Then all I had to do was burn 800-1000 calories in exercises and eat 5 clean meals a day about 200-300 calories a meal. Working out early in the morning before my kids wake up works for me. I do have the gym but don't go because it takes time to do all that. I got a stationary bike so ride that to loose 400-500 calories. I love reading my scriptures or doing crocheting while I ride. Then I do P90x another 500 calories. My kids are usually up by then but I put on a show and have them eat breakfast. Liam is hard sometimes but he will stay in a bouncer and watch me work out. Or I incorporate him in my work out. Lift him 20-40 times. Have him on my legs while doing sit ups things like that. So I would burn 2300-2500 a day and only eat 1200-1500 calories a day. I know it is tough but when you get it done you just have to maintain your weight So only eat healthy foods and a few non to stay under the calories that you know you will burn for that day. I did a cheat meal and dessert every week too. Eat whatever I wanted and it helped boost my metabolism and did not affect my weight loss. I have kept it off by doing the same things but bumped up my calories and switched to muscle and strength building exercises and less cardio. I hope that helps. Oh and I used spark people to count my calories so easy and free!! I also had fun finding lots of great clean recipes on pintrest. Make it fun and exciting and it will be a great. YOU Will DO GREAT!!

    1. I totally get that math. Wow, what you do is motivating, great job with your weight loss. I cant believe how much you do with 3 kids. WOW!!! I also have the P90X, but Quinn doesnt last very long while I workout, so I guess I just need to be motivated and get up at 5:30am and workout before Quinn gets up.

Thank you Tanis and Lisa also!!! :) :)

  3. Kailee, It's been awhile!!!
So, I really wish that I was a little better at exercising to be healthier. I do walk my girls to school (weather permitting) and I figure that house work is also exercise. I would say that going on walks and playing with kids is a good way to fit it in to a busy Mom's day while still being with your kids.

Also, I thought you might be interested in these posts from a blog I sometimes read. I really like her perspective. http://www.cjanekendrick.com/search/label/Janna%20Dean

p.s. Aaron and I still think of you and what an awesome person you are! I like to reminisce about how you would use "nada" as a go-to reply. And I think of you whenever I watch a preview for a cheesy chick-flick, teenage drama. Oh, or if I hear a guy with a really low voice! :) I think it's awesome that you are doing this blog... but then again, I think you're awesome anyway.

    1. Thanks Camille! I hope that you, Aaron and the girls and doing well. :) I always thought you would be an awesome mom, since you were such a fun roommate; and based on your advice it sounds like that is true.

  4. Kailee,
I found that my kids LOVE music. One day I had my iTunes on shuffle and started dancing and singing along with the songs. Bronco was having so much fun with me dancing and him swaying to the music I lost track of time. By the time we were done, I had worked out 30 minutes without realizing it. So I made that part of my daily schedule with the kids. I called it "Mommy and Me Jam Time". And we set up a bunch of different stations on Pandora and would just dance every day. Bronco also loves Zumba and dancing with me. Once I started doing that every day, plus when I made these diet changes ( http://fitfunfantasticmrslee.blogspot.com/2012/04/weight-comes-off-june-6.html ) I started losing about 10lbs a month! I am going to start it all up again this summer right after the baby's born, and add Kettle Bells to my work out for toning :)I weighed in at 198 today, after Bronco was born I got up to 205, and once I started making simple changes this time last year, by the fall I was back down to 160! Good luck!
